The National Unity Platform
(NUP), a political party run by singer-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi,
better known as Bobi Wine, has hinted at King Michael's intention to join it,
which is a surprise development.
The action is in response to
Big Eye StaBoss, a former colleague at the National Resistance Movement (NRM),
who in November 2023 made a comparable move to the NUP.
King Michael expressed his
respect for Big Eye's great changes in life since aligning with Bobi Wine's
political ideas in a recent appearance on a local TV program. King Michael
acknowledged that the timing is not right for a reunion with Bobi Wine, but he
yet expressed his readiness to do so.
"It's clear that since
getting back together with Bobi Wine, my friend Big Eye's life has changed.
King Michael told Spark TV in the interview that he would have to follow suit
at some point in the future, but not just now.
Big Eye's lifestyle has
significantly improved since joining the Makerere-Kavule centered political
movement, which has stoked rumors of King Michael's possible relocation. This
move raises the possibility that King Michael is thinking about making a
similar change to improve his own political position.
Since Bobi Wine entered politics, there has been a noticeable rift in the Ugandan entertainment sector as performers have chosen to support the NUP or side with the ruling party, the NRM. The captivating artist who transitioned into politics is still a major player in Ugandan politics, sparking contentious debates and influencing the political allegiances of well-known figures in the nation's entertainment industry.
The entertainment world is
eager to see if King Michael would follow Big Eye's lead and join the ranks of
those who back Bobi Wine and the NUP as he mulls over his political future.
