On Friday, several highways in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, are scheduled to be closed for festivities honoring President Yoweri Museveni's 79th birthday.
Senior Superintendent Godwin Arinaitwe, the commander of the Kampala District Traffic Police, issued the traffic directive on Thursday, claiming that the event, which would take place at the Kololo Independence Grounds, is projected to draw over 100,000 visitors.
"Roughly 100,000 visitors from various sections of the nation are what we're expecting. There are temporary traffic flow delays, so we ask the general public to be cautious while also adhering to the rules of the road, Arinaitwe was reported as saying by the Nile Post.
According to the police chief, traffic will still be able to travel via the Golf Course traffic signals toward Acacia Avenue, but drivers will not be allowed to use Upper Kololo Terrace, Elgon Terrace, or Lower Kololo Terrace, as those areas are restricted for VVIPs.
Road users arriving from Bombo Road have been redirected to Old Kira Road, the Lugogo bypass, and the KCCA grounds near Shoprite, while those coming from Jinja Park have been directed to the UMA showgrounds.
You can utilize the Lugogo bypass and the KCCA grounds if you're approaching from the Entebbe side. You can also use the Kampala Road and the traffic lights on the Jinja Road.
Those leaving Nansana should use Yusuf Lule Road, the Golf Course Traffic Lights, Nakumatt, Jinja Road Traffic Lights, and the Wampeewo Roundabout. They should then park at the KCCA grounds or the UMA show grounds, according to Arinaitwe.
The Prince Charles Drive traffic will also be diverted through Archer route Junction and up to the Jinja Road police station where it joins the main route.
The police chief consequently encouraged drivers in the impacted areas to abide by the traffic warning to prevent disruptions.
According to reports, a group of young people under the direction of the National Coordinator in the Office of the National Chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Hadijah Uzeiye Namyalo, organized the much-hyped birthday celebrations.
President Museveni's birthday really occurs a week later on September 15, despite the celebration being scheduled for September 8th.
