On Friday night, when singer Azawi performed her first concert,
thousands of her fans flocked to the Lugogo Grounds to offer their support for
the rising star.
Azawi's big night was destined to be a success from the start thanks to
two years of nonstop hits and support from Guinness.
At precisely 10 o'clock in the evening,
Azawi began the first portion of her performance amidst a fireworks show,
singing the 2021 hit song My Year. Bangers from her Maiden album African Music
like Mbinyumirwa
, Crazy Love, Ache For You, and Gimme were played
after that. She also honored the co-founder of her label, Swangz Avenue, Benon
Mugumbya, by playing the song I Know by Benon and Vampos.
The performer also paid respect to Radio, a fallen star, by singing
Nyubani with Viboyo and Weasel.
However, her performance with Winnie Nwaji aka Fire Baby, which sent
partygoers into a frenzy, was the highlight of this first session.
That boosted the tempo for the second part of her performance with songs
like Party Mood, Slow Dancing, Fwa Fwa and Lo Fit that got the crowd singing
along word for word. Majje, a project she worked on with Fik Fameica in
cooperation with Guinness Uganda, served as the culmination of this.
Guinness Uganda Brand Manager Elizabeth
Mutamuliza highlighted to media present at the concert that the company's
involvement in Azawi extends far beyond the concert.
"Azawi
is a Guinness Brand Influencer for our Black Shines Brightest Campaign, which
aims to highlight people who, in their various fields, have changed culture;
people who are more than enough and go above and beyond. You'll concur with me
when I say that Azawi has accomplished that in terms of music. This performance
is just one of the numerous endeavors we have undertaken and will carry on
with," she stated.
APass,
Zex Bilangilangi, Karole Kasita, Elijah Kitaka, and Pia Pounds all gave
outstanding performances on the show.
