Butenda (now greater Masaka District) born Lubega Tonny known to many as Red Banton two decades ago was one of Uganda's top biggest artists.
Nonya Money, Pony Tail, Speed 180, Kakoona and Balogo are some of his popular hits.
Though nowdays he is no longer a popular artist among crowds he still performs on big shows and stages and his last performance was at the 11th Edition of Bayimba Festival in Lunkulu Island.
Banton came to Kampala (Capital City) in 1998 when he left his mom in the village and came to look for his father who was living in Kampala.
His first job in Kampala was being a security guard (Night Watchman) at a night parking yard at Makindye Secondary School.
He schooled from Molly And Paul then joined Katwe Martyrs thereafter he moved to Makindye High School before proceeding to Universal Secondary School.
He was nick named Red Boy because of a pair of red sandals, short and red school shirt he wore all times that he came with from Masaka but because of his strong love for Jamaican reggae artist Bujju Banton he decide to stage name himself Red Banton.
2000 is when his Nonya Money song made him a big artist and won him an award and there he recorded Kawala, Pony Tail, a song called WBS Television a former tv station called WBS and he followed it with Sija Kuva Kampala.
Black Skin is Bantons latest released song produced by Eno Beats.
Red Banton claims he is the founder of rhymes and thats a record that no one can take away.
He was a close friend of Goodlyf crew a singing duo of Radio & Weasel before the death of Radio a member of Goodlyf but he was not signed or contracted to it.
